How To Hire A Contractor
At first, it sounds like a great deal: a contractor offers to paint your project for half of what others charge. But when the work is done you discover shoddy workmanship, mediocre materials. You discover that you’re responsible for fixing them, and your contractor is nowhere to be found. Then, it’s too late; you discover why you hired an unlicensed contractor
Hiring an unlicensed contractor can bring your project far more risk than savings. You can be held liable for on the job injuries, taxes, or insurance. You can even be held liable for unlicensed contractor’s illegal acts.
How can you protect yourself? Hire a licensed contractor. Licensed contractors are subject to laws designed to protect both you and your property. Nevada State law requires that the Nevada State Contractors Board must license every person or business that submits a bid or contracts for work. Consumer’s who do business with unlicensed contractors are not protected against losses by the Residential Recovery Fund.

- Hire only licensed contractors
- Get three references & review past work
- Ensure they hire full time permanent employees
- Ensure they carry workers compensation
- Ensure they carry liability insurnace - certificate
- Ask for a written warranty
- Obtain a signed contact - understand terms
- Pay a 10% deposit or $1000
- Don't make full payment until you are satisfied
- Don't pay cash - pay by check or credit card
